An Introduction

For as long as I can remember, music is something that has been a big part of my life. From keeping my old iPod Shuffle by my side as a child, to playing multiple instruments in band for most of my teen years. Although I’ve had many enjoyable years of experience playing different instruments and creating music, I’ve always preferred listening to music instead. Regardless, music has always been a constant in my life and it’s without a doubt the one thing I love most in this world.

I am Faith Vara, an Electronic Media major at Texas State University. I am also involved with KTSW, our student-run radio station. As a music lover and a very active music listener, I’m constantly on the search for new music. Typically, I search through YouTube or other streaming services to find songs or artists I might enjoy, but I’ve been wanting to try something new for a while. Through this blog, I hope to introduce my audience, as well as myself, to a fun and interesting way to discover new music: Vinyl.

Don’t get me wrong, I know collecting vinyl is a big thing nowadays and I even have quite the collection myself, so let me explain. In my hometown of San Antonio, there is a record store that has boxes filled with records from all different decades, genres, and musicians. Typically, these records sell anywhere from $1 to $5, which is very cheap compared to the average price. For my blog, I want to buy a set of records and give a review of each one, say whether or not I enjoyed the album, and give an explanation of why I chose it in the first place. After going through all of the albums, I will then sum everything up by stating my favorites and least favorites, whether or not I recommend using this as a method to find new music, as well as any other surprises I might’ve encountered on the way.

There have been numerous times where I’ve felt stuck not knowing where to find new music, as I’m sure many other people have. Therefore, I hope my journey in this blog over the semester can give others, as well as myself, inspiration to try this interesting and exciting way of discovering music.
